You know I’m all about geeks. Seriously. I can’t get enough. I am still looking to get the right “Talk Nerdy to Me” t-shirt for my slogan tee collection. I think brains are sexy. And I love my fiance, who is also a geek… techie and gadget-oriented with a rockin’ brain and can match wits with me (the frog never could… he would just get personal and mean). But y’all… there is one thing I just can’t do… and I am prepared for the hate mail on this one from my nerdy brethren.
Dungeons and Dragons.
There. I said it. I called it out. I just.can’t.do it.
I may have mentioned this, but Mr. Rusty Red Armor sings in the Grand Opera Chorus (also totally awesome)… well, I didn’t realize it, but this opera chorus is made up of some other wonderfully geeky folks, and I love them all. Seriously. I haven’t met one I didn’t like. They are all super awesome people. Apparently, they got together the idea of starting a D&D game within the opera chorus, which would, of course, be open to significant others… (Y’all see where I am going with this??)
So… the inevitable question comes.
RRA: So, we are starting a D&D game and we would all love it if you would play
Me: (Blink. Blink. Blink) Uh… I can’t
RRA: Oh? We would really love it. Rob’s wife is playing. It will be fun.
Me: I REALLY can’t. I love you… it is just too nerdy.
I will admit that I have played in the past. In high school, I had a group of friends who were big into it, so I played a few times. I was always more interested in building my character than playing the game. So, I held strong and did not play. I felt bad because I could see that RRA really wanted me to be there. So when they played the second time, I went. I did not play. I took a photo shoot with me and edited pictures while they played.
Oh. My. God. This game was completely hysterical. Rob, the DM (Dungeon Master for those pretending they never played in high school), had created some of the funniest things I had ever heard. For example, the gang walked past the barber shop, called Turn Your Head and Quaff, and into the store to buy more weapons… Bloodbath and Beyond. I was rolling!! I jokingly told Rob that I was going to blog about their game because I found it so funny.
So, it happens that the next game is a week from today. I am still not playing, because, come on… BUT I will be blogging the highlights. I can’t wait to see what Rob has to offer this time. So, bring it, buddy.
And bring on the anti-anti-D&D hate mail… 😉
PS – Rob’s awesome wife, Nicole, only plays to spend time with Rob, which I think is sweet. I’m still not playing.
Great article. Waiting for more.
